I’ve been quiet for a reason. While you weren’t looking, I built an entire publishing operation from scratch.
Today, I’m excited to announce The Puzzle Architect - a new venture creating premium Sudoku puzzle books with a twist: every single puzzle is computer-generated, computer-verified, and guaranteed to have exactly one unique solution.
What is The Puzzle Architect?
The Puzzle Architect is a Sudoku puzzle book brand featuring:
-
400+ puzzles per volume - we over-deliver on our promise
-
Large print format - easy on the eyes, perfect for all ages
-
Computer-verified solutions - every puzzle guaranteed solvable
-
Progress tracker - built-in checkboxes to track your journey
-
Complete solving guide - from beginner techniques to advanced strategies
This isn’t just another puzzle book slapped together from random grids. Every puzzle is algorithmically generated using custom Python code that ensures quality, uniqueness, and proper difficulty ratings.
The Tech Behind It
Here’s where it gets fun for the nerds (that’s us):
The Puzzle Engine
I built a complete puzzle generation system in Python that:
-
Generates valid Sudoku grids using constraint propagation
-
Removes numbers strategically to create puzzles
-
Validates every puzzle has exactly ONE unique solution
-
Rates difficulty based on solving techniques required
-
Outputs puzzles in multiple formats
The Book Generator
A full PDF generation pipeline using ReportLab that:
-
Creates professional 6"x9" book layouts
-
Renders clean, crisp puzzle grids
-
Generates title pages, instruction pages, and solution pages
-
Includes a Thank You page with QR code to the website
-
Outputs print-ready PDFs for Amazon KDP
The Cover Generator
Custom cover creation system using Pillow (PIL) that:
-
Creates full KDP covers (front + spine + back)
-
Calculates exact spine width based on page count
-
Generates difficulty-appropriate color schemes
-
Includes sample puzzles on the back cover
-
Outputs both PNG and CMYK PDF for print
