Rescue at Sea: A Coast Guard Adventure
A short story by Dennis featuring Roberta
Dennis and Roberta are enjoying a peaceful coastal vacation when they decide to tour a Coast Guard vessel for fun.
While getting to know the crew, a sudden storm rolls in. The Coast Guard receives a distress call from a small vessel lost at sea, and the crew scrambles to respond. Short-handed, Dennis and Roberta offer their help in the emergency situation.
[Scene 1: The Distress Call]
Heavy rain, strong winds. Coast Guard vessel interior.
COAST GUARD OFFICER: (Urgent) “We’ve got a distress call! Small boat, stranded in the storm, five miles out.”
DENNIS: (Looking out at the storm) “Looks like it’s getting worse by the minute.”
ROBERTA: “We should help. They need all the hands they can get.”
COAST GUARD OFFICER: “We could use the extra pair of eyes. Alright, let’s gear up and head out.”
The crew readies the vessel. Dennis and Roberta join the rescue mission as the vessel heads into the storm.
[Scene 2: Reaching the Stranded Vessel]
Waves crashing, the storm rages as the Coast Guard vessel approaches the distressed boat.
COAST GUARD OFFICER: “There it is! Radio’s down. We’ll have to approach manually.”
ROBERTA: (Noticing something odd) “That’s strange… their lights are off. And look at the cargo, it’s not secure.”
DENNIS: (Helping to secure the boat) “We need to get them out before this storm gets any worse.”
The crew begins rescuing the passengers. Roberta keeps a close eye on the suspicious cargo while Dennis helps stabilize the vessel.
[Scene 3: The Twist]
Roberta notices tampering on the navigation equipment.
ROBERTA: “Wait a minute… this navigation system has been tampered with. Someone set them on this course intentionally.”
DENNIS: “You’re right. Whoever did this knew what they were doing. But why?”
COAST GUARD OFFICER: “We’ll figure that out later. Right now, we need to get them back safely.”
A passenger overhears and becomes visibly nervous.
SUSPICIOUS PASSENGER: (Defensive) “What are you saying? We were just lost, that’s all!”
Roberta exchanges a knowing look with Dennis.
[Scene 4: The â– â– â– â– â– â– ]
The storm intensifies. Dennis and Roberta work with the Coast Guard to get the vessel back on course.
DENNIS: “Hold on! I think I can fix the navigation—just give me a second.”
ROBERTA: (To the Coast Guard Officer) “We need to keep an eye on that passenger. Something doesn’t add up.”
The crew struggles against the storm, but they manage to bring the vessel back on course.
COAST GUARD OFFICER: “Good work, everyone. We’ll deal with the rest when we’re back on shore.”
The passenger is quietly taken into custody for questioning.
[Conclusion]
The crew returns safely to shore. Dennis and Roberta are thanked for their help.
DENNIS: (With a grin) “Well, that was a bit more excitement than I expected.”
ROBERTA: “I have a feeling this won’t be our last adventure.”
COAST GUARD OFFICER: “You two might have a future in this line of work after all.”
They all share a laugh as the scene fades out.
