Meet the Captain (That’s Me)

Ahoy, crew. I’m Captain Dumbass, founder of this chaos-friendly, ego-free zone where we talk IT, build games, tell stories, and occasionally break stuff (on purpose or otherwise).

Gamer Profile:

• Lover of all things retro
• Big fan of horror that actually freaks you out
• Story-based games are my jam, if it’s got a plot twist, I’m probably playing it

Builder of Things:

• Built this forum from scratch
• Tinkerer of servers, relays, and anything with wires
• I’ll mod a Bronco one day and rebuild a website the next

Story Crafter:

• Created “The Calm One” (coming soon)
• Write dumbass principles, serious manuals, and funny fiction
• Working on new stories with a sidekick named Roberta (she’s the real boss)

Greetings to everyone,

I am Phil. I hail from Minnesota and have always been interested in gaming and computers for as far as I can remember. I remember once when I was very young opening the back of my lime green GameBoy Color and looking at how everything was connected since I wanted to know how the games being played on it worked.

Here’s a bit of my background / profile:

Gaming:

• Final Fantasy
• The Legend of Zelda
• RuneScape
• Stellar Blade
• Destiny

Things I’ve Built:

• I build my current PC rig and it was the first (and probably only time) I will ever do that again. Mad respect to the people who enjoy it and continue to do it. Just not my favorite thing. Took me 2 weeks.
• I built a display case for my GunBlade replica from Final Fantasy VIII

Things I want to do:

• Create my own game RPG style
• Create a few original apps for things I want tracked
• Keep learning

Professionally:

• Currently a software Development
• Former Software Developer for a Health Care facility in Minnesota
• Former QA Tester for the US Census
• Former QA Testing for Activision (My name is in the credits of Black Ops 4)
• Life long student of IT / Software Development Life Cycles

Welcome to the forums Phil. We have much in common, as I suspect is/will be the case of most members.

One thing to note I have dabbled in creating games both 2D and 3D and used various Game Engines, see my post here: Choosing the Right Game Engine for You for some hight level thoughts based on my experiences.

I don’t spend much time on it these days but here are a few images of my last project in Unreal Engine. These are just some early development in engine screenshots of the project.
